Anaphors are reflexive pronouns (myself, yourself, etc.) and reciprocal pronouns (each other, one another). They must have an antecedent within some unit, e.g. within a clause or DP that contains them and cannot refer outside it. On the other hand a pronominal (him, her, etc) must refer outside the unit that contains them.
